A recent research has got some spectacular figures claiming that cricket has over one billion fans, of which 40% are female, and nearly 300 million participants.ย The survey, which was conducted byย Nielsen Sports Council,ย has put the number of cricket fans at 1.039 billion.
The survey was carried out in the 12 full member countries, China and U.S.A as both countries have been identified as non-traditional markets.ย It is the biggest market survey in cricket that involved around 19,000 interviews with fans aged 16-69 around the world.
Test cricket was found to be the most popular format, attracting almost 70% of the fans.
We get a number of doomsayers predicting the death of Tests, even 50-over cricket, but actually, the strategy to focus on all three formats is still probably the right way to go.

Richardwon added that the upcomingย World Test Championshipย which is to be playedย in July next year willย enhance the gameโ€s traditional format.
I hope [the test championship] will be a significant rise in interest around the world and will add to the number of fans following Tests.

Research also showed two-thirds of the fans are interested in all three international formats of the game, however the World Cup and World T20 are the most popular events.
